A few Reminders:
Making Day:
This Friday our Golden Time is a making day. We are going to spend some time in the morning and afternoon making anything we can with bits and pieces. Please can your child bring anything they can from home to share in this event. We are after boxes, wrapping paper, string, beads, buttons, ribbon, fabric, toilet rolls… anything we can use to create robots, cars, houses, guns etc.
Also if any parents are able to come in and help please let me know. I will only need a few helper to assist the children and to be gluers or cutters or just general helpers.
Book Bags:
These need to come to school everyday! With your child's spelling/reading notebook which you need to sign after your child has read to you and they have practiced their spelling words. Reading is at the front and spelling is at the back. It would help if you could rule your child's notebook up. Also children should be reading to you every night. The books they bring home from school are 2 levels below where they are reading in class so these should be easy for them to read but builds up their confidence in reading.
Brain food:
This is a small piece of fruit or vegetable. Please make sure you cut your child's brain food up, about the size of their palm, ¼ an apple/orange. It is only a 2 minute snack to freshen their brain up before we get into numeracy.

Welcome to 2011
Welcome to the Room 13 blog. For those of you who don’t know much about me this is my second year at DPS, previous to that I had been teaching at Fairfield School in Levin. I thoroughly enjoyed my first year at DPS and cannot wait to have an even better one this year.
We have been very busy the past two weeks already with spelling and maths tests, swimming, reading, writing and maths programmes. We have had some great discussions around the learning pit and I look forward to challenging your children. Ask them daily or even weekly if they have been in the pit.
I will try my best to keep this blog up to date and you will find it full of information, photos, stories and all sorts of things we get up to at DPS.
